Rock 'n' Roll stars?
We all know that Premier League players earn a hefty wage week in week out, and they are even viewed by some as celebrities with an almost ‘pop star’ like public image. But which bands do the clubs they represent resemble most?
Arsenal – Escala – Young, energetic and talented. Despite their classiness, it hasn’t brought them the success that many predicted.
Aston Villa – Dizzee Rascal – A focus on youth here too. Their appointment of Gerard Houllier was arguably as baffling and complex as a Rascal verse.
Birmingham City – Arctic Monkeys – Early stuff was great, yet their new stuff isn’t as attractive or productive and they’re on the slide.
Blackburn Rovers – Kerry Katona – Find themselves in the headlines for controversial reasons. As well as being quite unattractive.
Blackpool – Elton John – “Still standing!” but only just. They are colourful, entertaining and charismatic. Usually seen in a fluorescent orange outfit that the Watford chairman would be proud of.
Bolton Wanderers - Eminem – Seen a ‘Recovery’ of late. Hard to pin down why they’re slightly likeable.
Chelsea – Red Hot Chilli Peppers – Solid and successful. Having to deal with challengers as always but they remain classic.
Everton – Take That without Robbie Williams – Both need a killer instinct to tick. Toffees need that to ‘Progress’.
Fulham - Katherine Jenkins – Good looking and a Welsh influence of course. But how effective?
Liverpool – The Beatles – Heyday was a while ago, but they’re still a popular side around the country.
Manchester City – Stone Roses – Manchester’s side. They’ve experienced their ups and downs. Whether the money invested in them by Sheikh Mansour is ‘Fools Gold’ is up for debate.
Manchester United – Oasis – Ironically controversial choice, but they were most successful in the nineties and are globally known.
Newcastle United – Lady Gaga – A massive following despite making bizarre choices.
Stoke City – Hard-Fi – ‘Hard to Beat’. Style sometimes questioned.
Sunderland – Spice Girls – All hot air and no substance.
Tottenham Hotspur – J.L.S – Fast paced and starting to break new markets despite not winning respective competitions outright.
West Bromwich Albion – Kasabian – Come back and learnt lessons from previous times.
West Ham United – Britney Spears – Popular and with a hardcore support, Hammers fans regularly endure ups and downs, but they’ve let themselves go this season.
Wigan Athletic – Susan Boyle – Unassuming exterior yet can surprise occasionally.
Wolverhampton Wanderers – Chris Brown – Hit and run culture developing at Molineux. Karl Henry not only looks like Brown, but strikes like him too.
I’ve given it a go and tried to back up my choices, feel free to disagree and offer alternatives.
