That Friday Feeling Part II - Pie Eaters, The Black Sheep and The Executioner

As mentioned last week, we’re trying to grow this part of the blog for your enjoyment. Don’t hesitate to get involved and have your say @thesportinghack or use #TSHfridayfeeling

Uno Steak and Kidney please!
Wigan Athletic and Millwall will do battle in the FA Cup semi-finals next month for the right to face Chelsea or one of the Manchester Clubs in the final. People may claim that the other semi final will be “like the final” and, while there is always the possibility of the actual final being an anti-climax, at TSH we say well done to the ‘pie-eaters’ and the Lions! Or should we have a re-draw because it’s not the game everyone supposedly wants? Both sides have suffered at the hands of Manchester United in major finals (Millwall FA Cup 2004 and Wigan League Cup 2006) and will hopefully, while wearing the underdog tag, look to avenge those defeats and prove the critics that they are worthy of their moment in the sun.

Yes I'm from Wigan too, how could you tell?
Come off it Shaun Edwards, who are you trying to kid? There’s no such thing as an Englishman who wants Wales to prosper in Cardiff on Sunday when the two nations collide on the rugby field to decide the fate of the 6 nations trophy. The former Great Britain and Wigan Warriors rugby league star though, now the defence coach of the Welsh rugby union’s national side, has pledged his allegiance to the men in red in a recent BBC interview. With three outcomes possible through permutations of complex proportions - including a tied title, Edwards is sure of one thing: he can’t lose. Nor can he pull the wool over our eyes either.

This dressing gown sure has its uses
Most men at the age of 48 probably find that the height of their sporting activity is most likely to be the odd bit of golf or a spot of fishing down at the local riverbank. Bernard Hopkins is not most men. The Philadelphia boxer last week became the oldest world champion in boxing history as he defeated a youthful (31 year old) Tavoris Cloud for the IBF light-heavyweight title in New York. Welshman Nathan Cleverly, still a relative schoolboy at 26, will hope to teach the man they call ‘The Executioner’ a lesson if all goes to plan against Robin Krasniqi in London next month.
